All voters can vote by mail: you don’t need a special reason. Voting by mail is a great option for voters who are not comfortable voting in person because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Requesting a vote-by-mail package

To vote by mail, you must request a vote-by-mail packageThe deadline to request a vote-by-mail package is 5:00 pm on October 17.

You can also request a vote-by-mail package by calling Elections BC at 1-800-661-8683.

You will need to provide your name, date of birth, address, and one of the following identification numbers:

  • your B.C. driver’s licence number,
  • your B.C. Identification Card number,
  • the last six digits of your Social Insurance Number, or
  • the last six digits of your Personal Health Number.

To request a vote-by-mail package, you will also be asked to provide an email address or telephone number where you can be reached.

Completing your vote-by-mail package

Once you request a vote-by-mail package it will be sent to you in the mail. To complete your vote-by-mail package, follow the instructions in the package or download the instructions here (PDF).

Returning your vote-by-mail package

Completed vote-by-mail packages must be received by Elections BC before 8 p.m. (Pacific time) on Saturday, October 24.

You may return your package by mail. A postage paid return envelope is provided for voters in Canada. If mailing from outside of Canada, you must provide the necessary postage. Ensure to mail your completed vote-by-mail package as soon as possible to make sure it is received by the deadline.

You can also return your vote-by-mail package in person at any district electoral office, voting place (on advance voting days or on General Voting Day), or participating Service BC locations (see note). Check the Elections BC Where to Vote app for a list of district electoral offices and voting places, or see this list of Service BC locations.

Note: Vote-by-mail packages cannot be dropped off at Service BC locations in Surrey, Vancouver, Burnaby or Masset. Voters in these areas wishing to return their package in person should return it at a district electoral office or voting place.
